Outdoor Field Construction Has Started!

Please look at the map below. Due to construction starting around the outdoor field, everyone will need to enter and exit SCOR through the front main entrance.

If you have a game on the outdoor field please go out the main entrance and follow the path shown to get on and off the field.
All games on the outdoor field will be played as scheduled.

The patio in front of TURFS and the space in front of the outdoor field will not be accessible. Spectators who wish to watch outdoor games will need to watch from the near goal side or inside one of the buildings. Please do not bring any chairs into the outdoor spectator area; a set of bleachers has been set up if you wish to sit.

We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation as SCOR continues with construction!

RICHMOND,VA — The owners of The Sports Center of Richmond “SCOR” are thrilled to announce that Peak Experiences will open its second and brand new Indoor Rock Climbing Facility at SCOR, located at 1385 Overbrook Road. Peak owners Scott Powell, Casey Cockerham, Jay Smith and Kevin Tobin have been friends with SCOR owners Mark Grossman and Chris Fox for years. What began as a hopeful conversation between two Richmond-based small businesses close to a decade ago has become a reality for both SCOR and PEAK. Peak’s first facility opened in 1998 in Midlothian and at the time was one of the largest indoor rock climbing facilities in the country. Climbing is no longer seen as a fringe or extreme sport, and the local climbing community has grown immensely and is poised to get even stronger.  Peak’s production of the Boulder Bash at The Richmond Sports Backers’ Riverrock outdoor life and music festival has brought world-class climbers to Richmond’s doorstep for the last six years, spurring interest.  Climbing will for the first time, be a part of the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo. SCOR continues to provide access to an increasingly active Metropolitan Richmond Community, and the popularity of recreational adult and youth leagues in soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and other sports has steadily been on the rise.  Last year alone, SCOR saw more than 600,000 visitors. Peak’s ascent is no different, and indoor climbing is seeing incredible growth all over the world. SCOR is in the process of dramatically increasing our sport and recreation offerings and user capacity with the new construction and renovations of our 125,000 square foot facility.  The renovations to Peak’s 15,000 square foot space at SCOR will begin soon with a planned opening early summer 2017.
Peak will continue to operate its gym on Polo Circle where it has served customers and the climbing community for 18 years. In addition, Peak’s award-winning Passages Adventure Camp located on Belle Isle will be enhanced by its proximity to SCOR. The addition of Peak to SCOR will deliver one of the best, most multi-purpose indoor/outdoor sport facilities, and most unique recreation destinations in the country.
Stay tuned for renderings and photos of the new climbing facility as well as updates on construction, grand opening, and exciting new combined SCOR and Peak programs.

New Parking Map, Construction has Started!

Construction has Started!

We are asking all customers to carpool, if possible and thank everyone for your cooperation.

Parking will be limited during construction. Please look at the map below for parking information.
If parking becomes full we ask that you park on Overbrook and walk up to SCOR.
Due to construction customers will no longer be able to enter SCOR through the gate nearest to what used to be the Dome. You will need to enter through the gate near the outdoor field or through the “party zone” double doors.

Thank you again for your cooperation!

Facility Expansion!

The $2.5M Game Plan, Sports Center of Richmond Expansion!
After a snow storm burst the bubble last winter, we’re ready for a big comeback!
The owners and operators of the Sports Center of Richmond “SCOR” are pleased to announce an expansion and renovation project at their facility.  The project consists of a new building that will expand SCOR’s current footprint, replacing the “air dome” that collapsed this past winter.
“We are committed to building the best indoor and outdoor sports and entertainment facility for the people of Richmond, and the surrounding counties,” commented SCOR Principal Mark Grossman.  “This project allows us to expand our offerings, and we also will be sharing some exciting new developments in the very near future.
Our renovation funded by our friends at Towne Bank will allow all of our players, customers, and visitors to enjoy a more open, accessible, and engaging experience.
SCOR has been working on this project since the air dome’s collapse during the winter of 2016. SCOR has assembled a project team led by Towne Bank and the Capstone Construction Company.  The building project comprises approximately 50,000 square feet of new indoor field, and entertainment space all of which will be fully air-conditioned.  In addition, there will be a number of changes to existing layouts, and the current outdoor field (visible from I-95) will be covered for year around and all weather use.  Total square footage of the renovated facility will be approximately 105,000 sq. ft, an increase of approximately 30%.
“This renovation allows us to expand our programming in youth related activities such as Lil Kickers, Lil Scorers, camps, but also in other sports that we’ve not been able to serve due to lack of field and play space,” said Tyler Pardue, General Manager of SCOR.  “While the collapse of the air dome was a real inconvenience, the end result will be well worth it given the expanded programming options and capacity the new facility will have.” “Our customers have been so understanding, and our staff has been amazing from the moment that our dome collapsed. The fact that our ownership group decided to invest over $2.5 million in the bigger steel building, and putting a cover over our really popular outdoor field speaks volumes to their commitment to an enhanced experience at SCOR.  Preparatory renovation work is now underway in some areas, with more extensive construction to begin in a few weeks. The construction will be done in phases so that we can have customers playing and enjoying the new state of the art buildings as soon as possible.  We hope to be completed with our project in early winter 2017.

SCOR’s Newest Sponsor!

We would like to introduce F.W. Sullivan’s Fan Bar & Grille, popularly known as Sully’s, as Sports Center of Richmond newest sponsor, F.W. Sullivan’s is now the “Official Adult SCOR House Team” sponsor. The Adult House Team’s names will resemble F.W. Sullivan’s likeness in some way; the new House Shirts will also have the Sully’s logo on the back. We are extremely excited to be associated with one of the staples in the Richmond Bar Scene.

A message from F.W. Sullivan’s:

Located adjacent to the historic and happening Fan District in the Uptown area of Richmond, Virginia, F.W. Sullivan’s Fan Bar & Grille has become a favorite place to drink, eat and meet up with old friends and new for both locals and visitors. Our patio along Main Street and building (circa 1899), gives our guests a fun and social environment in a truly timeless and authentic Richmond neighborhood setting. We’re also proud to have been voted one of the Best Bars in our neighborhood, the City of Richmond and Central Virginia by the readers of Style Weekly, Richmond Magazine and Virginia Living Magazine.

F.W. Sullivan’s is based on the premise that “wherever life and the world may take you, you can always come home to Sully’s” and that is what our goal is, to make everyone, whether it’s their first visit or we see them every day, feel like they’re home. Our philosophy is perpetuated by our namesake and honorary proprietor, F.W. “Sully” Sullivan who travels the world but whose heart always remains at here at home. His travels are reflected in our decor, our friendly and familiar atmosphere and our fondness for raising a glass to celebrate pretty much any occasion or any excuse that can be celebrated.

Bring your friends and grab a booth, hang out on the patio or saddle up to the bar and make a new friend or two, as you’re always welcome and we’re always happy to See You at Sully’s, It’s Your Home Bar, It’s Richmond’s Home Bar!
